Download the HullSense app and make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone. Open the app, tap "Add Device," and hold your phone within a few feet of the powered-on device. The pairing process completes automatically in a few seconds.
Free includes Bluetooth and WiFi monitoring, battery readings, live water level monitoring, GPS location, weather and tides, and push notifications — everything you need for basic boat monitoring. Pro adds LTE cellular connectivity, battery and water level history charts, daily Boat Health reports, slow leak detection, geofencing, adjustable reporting intervals, and CSV data export.
LTE is activated automatically when you subscribe to HullSense Pro. After subscribing, the SIM card in your device is activated within a few minutes. No manual configuration is needed — the device will automatically switch to LTE when WiFi is unavailable.
First check that the device has power — verify the connection to your boat battery. If it's powered, the device may be between reporting intervals (default is every 30 minutes). If it's been offline for more than an hour, try power-cycling the device by disconnecting and reconnecting it from the battery. If the issue persists, contact support.
You can cancel your subscription any time from within the HullSense app under Settings → Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period and you'll retain Pro access until then. You can also email support@hullsense.io and we'll handle it for you.
Yes. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS/HTTPS) and stored in your private Firestore account accessible only to you. We do not sell your data to third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
HullSense supports AGM, Flooded (wet cell), Gel, and LiFePO₄ battery chemistries. You can set your battery type in the app under Device Settings, and the state-of-charge calculation will use the correct discharge curve for your battery.
A small flexible tube runs from the device to the bottom of your bilge. As water rises, it pushes air up the tube, and a precision differential pressure sensor inside the device measures the pressure to determine water depth. The sensor itself never gets wet.
Float switches are mechanical — they trigger only when water reaches a fixed height, usually too late to prevent damage. HullSense continuously measures actual water level, so you know about leaks the moment they start, can detect slow leaks float switches will never catch, and can tell if your pump is failing to keep up.
HullSense uses motion-aware filtering. When the boat is underway, the device automatically widens its smoothing window and adjusts thresholds to ignore wave action — only sustained changes trigger alerts.
Installation Guide
1
Choose a mounting location
Mount the HullSense enclosure in your boat's electrical compartment, away from standing water. Ensure it's within reach of your battery terminals and has ventilation.
2
Connect to your battery
Connect the red wire to your battery's positive terminal and the black wire to the negative terminal. HullSense supports 12V and 24V systems automatically.
3
Position the antennas
Route the GPS antenna to a location with a clear view of the sky — a deck fitting or near a porthole works well. The LTE antenna can remain inside the enclosure.
4
Power on and pair
Once connected, the device powers on automatically. Open the HullSense app and follow the pairing steps. The green LED on the device will blink when ready to pair.
